Sri Lanka is a country  with a rich history. There are many historical places in Sri Lanka. Polonnaruwa holds a special place in the history of Sri Lanka. Polonnaruwa is a valuable kingdom in Sri Lankan history.

Plonnaruwa Vatadage

The Polonnaruwa Vatadage is one of the important historical  place in Polonnaruwa. Vatadage is believed to have been built during the reign of king Parakramabahu 1 or king Nishshankamalla. It is believed that the Vatadage was built to house the Tooth Relic of the Buddha. The Polonnaruwa Vatadage  is a historical place with a unique structure.

Polonnaruwa Gal Viharaya.

Another valuable historical place in Sri Lanka is the Gal Viharaya. The Gal   Vihara, also know as Gal Viharay. Gal Viharaya is a rock temple of the Buddha situated in the ancient city of Polonnaruwa is north central. It was built in Ceylon in the 12th century by king Parakramabahu 1. The central feature of this shrine is the presence of Buddha images drawn on a rock. This is an example that reflects the artistic talent of the Ancient Sinhalese. The stone temple is prominent in sculpture and carving. Gal Vihara is one of the most visited place in Polonnaruwa.
