INDIAN DANCE

 Favourite Indian Dance Traditions.

Bharathanatyam and Kathak Dance.

There are two of my favourite Indian dance traditions. If they are, Bharatanatyam and Kathak Dance. It is important to have learned  these two dance traditions when learning the subjects of dance. These two dance traditions have distinctive identity traits. The use of Gungurus is prominent in Kathak and Bharathanatyam.

Bharathanatyam

Bharathanatyam is a dance of South Indian origin. Bharathanatyam is a dance tradition with clear classical characteristics. This is a beautiful Indian dance origin. Bharathanatyam use South Indian Carnatic Music. The primary institution for teaching Bharathanatyam is the "Kalasheshtra". This was built by Rukmani Devi  Arundaile. Bharatha Dance is considered to be the national dance of the South Indian Tamil people. This is a dance tradition that was prevalent all over Indian in the past.
There is a standard order of performing Bharatha Natyam dance elements.
 If they are,
  • Alarippu
  • Jathishwaram
  • Shabdam
  • Warnam
  • Padam
  • Thillana
  • Shlokam
This dance form was prepared by the "Thanjaur brothers" in the 19th century.

Kathak Dance

Kathak Dance is very beautiful Indian dance style. A Kathak Dance is a combination of the art of speaking among the common people. This is a North Indian dance tradition. The main institution for kathak dance is Bathkhand University. It was built by the scholar of Vishnu Narayana Bhathkand. Kathak Dance has evolved through four main Gurukulas. It they are, Lucknow, Raigar, Benaris and Jaipur.
